We've been spending time in Keystone, Colorado and the surrounding Summit County area our entire lives.  In the summers, we're sure that we love the summers more than winters in the mountains.  Then, as we click into our bindings for the first run of the season, we talk about how winter time is better than summer.  In the off-seasons, we talk about how much we enjoy the peace and quiet with fewer people around, the often fantastic weather, and the changing of the seasons in the mountians.

With that in mind, no time is a bad time to be here!  Here are a few of our favorite things to do...

Winter

  • Skiing (or snowboarding if you prefer) at Keystone, which is a couple-minute shuttle ride from your door.  Or, hop in a car and enjoy one of the neighboring ski areas - Arapahoe Basin (5 minutes away) Copper Mountain, Breckenridge or Loveland (15 -20 minutes), or anywhere in the Vail Valley (30-45 minutes)
  • Cross country skiing at the Keystone Nordic Center
  • Ice skating at Keystone Lake (just hop on the shuttle, or walk about 10 minutes)
  • Fly fishing (yes, you can fish the Blue in Silverthorne even in the winter!)
  • Snowshoeing - we recommend Montezuma (15-20 minutes away)
  • Go for a swim in the heated indoor pool at Lodgepole, or soak those achy legs in the hot tub

Spring/Summer/Fall

  • Hike up to a mountain lake for a picnic
  • Summit a 14'er - you can see some of them right out the window!
  • Climb Buffalo Mountain - a Summit County landmark
  • Mountain bike or road bike on any of the hundreds of miles of trails accessible right outside the front door
  • Whitewater rafting - there are lots of options from family-friendly trips to seriously scary class IV & V whitewater trips.
  • Flyfish the Snake River - just a few steps down the hill from the condo (or you can try the Blue, Eagle, Colorado, Gore Creek, Clear Creek, or Lake Dillon, all within a reasonable drive)
  • Stroll down to Keystone Lake and cruise around in a paddle boat, or just sit on the shore and enjoy the views with your meal or your latte
  • Go sailing on Lake Dillon
  • Watch fireworks - most weekends in the summer, they shoot them off from either Keystone Lake or River Run
  • Swim a few laps in the Lodgepole pool or soak in the hot tub
  • Throw some steaks on the BBQ grill located on the patio by the pool house
  • Enjoy one of the many music, arts and kids festivals that run throughout the summer season
  • Go horeseback riding
